Vocal Layering Tutorial - Doubles and Harmonies

If you record your own vocals, or other people's vocals, you'll want to watch this. I released a new video on my YouTube channel showing how to improve the quality of your vocal recordings through the use of double tracked lines and harmonies. If you aren't familiar with the terminology, double tracking vocals is when you track the part twice and pan each version hard left and hard right - this leads to a very wide and huge vocal sound. Harmonies are when you actually sing different notes in relation to the main melody, to accentuate or provide sonic depth to the main vocals.

Check it out:

Previously in my own music I only recorded single lead lines or maybe octaves, with very little harmonies. Any doubles I would do would be software generated through iZotope Nectar 3 or Wave's Reel ADT. While I still use these techniques for music that demands a more clinical vocal sound, actually recording these doubles and harmonies leads to a much more realistic, organic, and full sound.

I'd love to hear what you think, or if you have any other techniques in regards to vocal layering.
