VERMONA Releases CONTOURS Eurorack Module

VERMONA has released a new Eurorack envelope module called fourMative CONTOURS, available as of November 9th, 2018. This isn't just a normal envelope generator ADSR module however. Instead they created four channels, called units, each of which can work as an attack, decay, or hold phase. These units can also switch between linear or exponential response, very important if you want either a snappy or ordinary response.

Each unit can run within a time range of half a millisecond up to 30 seconds, and a fast/slow switch allows you to dial in the timing precisely. If you control the timing with the CV input, you can extend the time range in both direction and even deliver up to a two-hour-envelope - an insane concept. Each stage also provides end of pulse triggers for use in internal modulation or routing to control other modules.

Individual or combined units can be looped using that end of pulse trigger, making this Eurorack module function as both an LFO and even as an audio source. To me this capability is reminiscent of Mutable Instrument's Stages, but with a different approach and different strengths. The CONTOURS module (just like Stages) falls into that experimental realm of modulation control that can sometimes be the thing you never knew you needed until you have it.
