Mutable Instruments have created an inspiring new random source for the Eurorack modular synth format. Marbles has the ability to create a master clock output, two random rhythm gates, 3 channels of random voltages, and an auxiliary fluctuating random voltage.

This means that with Marbles you can generate random drum patterns along with random note sequences for a synthesizer and modulate those instruments with extra random voltage sources supplied by Marbles. This may sound like it would create a terrible song with no patterns or melody, but Marbles lets you control the probability of just about every function the module offers.
The Deja Vu knob allows you to control the amount of reuse the module will output, and the length knob lets you adjust the duration of the pattern. This makes it possible to generate a random pattern and lock it in, or only let a small percentage of random information creep into the pattern. In addition to this there are plenty of rhythmic modes and scales you can lock the outputs to. These features make it possible to hook up a couple drum modules, an oscillator, and two modulation sources to Marbles and let it create song sequences based on the parameters you lock in.
Using Marbles feels like you're setting the laws of physics and then sitting back and watching how they react. Its like you're a god of your own music universe.
DivKid has created an excellent 1hr+ video on his channel. I highly recommend checking his video out to experience the magic that is Mutable Instruments Marbles.
