Analogue Solutions Generator Step Sequencer

The Generator is an exciting new step sequencer from Analogue Solutions (creators of some very awesome analog synth gear). It features three channels of 16 step sequencers that run in parallel, each providing true analog CV outputs. There is a main gate output and a 'flipped' gate that sends a signal when the main gate is not active (very useful). It has been designed to be a playable sequencer, in that the controls on the panel make it very easy to edit live - this is a big selling point because many sequencers are quite difficult to edit on the fly.

The Generator features an internal analog clock (CV controllable of course), but you can also clock it using MIDI or an external clock from your Eurorack gear. The MIDI input can be used to create custom clocks by programming MIDI notes at certain rates, so in your DAW you can effectively sync the rates for an entire song via MIDI and record perfectly in sync. In addition to this there are plenty of patch points on the Generator to integrate the unit with a modular or Eurorack setup.

There are 4 rotary knobs that control something called Intuitive Real Time Gate Control, or IReTiGaC (nice) - their patent pending technology. Each of the four knobs control how many gates there are in the sequence, so rotating each knob will add more beats in specific positions. This allows you to alter the rhythm in real time. There is a 'Voltage Generator' section which is kind of like a six note keyboard; it can be used to transpose the sequence, reset, start, and even used like a mini keyboard.

Check out this live demonstration on Analogue Solutions' YouTube page and you'll see why I think its so exciting.

I couldn't find anything about if its rack mountable, so i'm guessing the answer is no. While its not a big deal for most people, personally I hesitate to buy any gear that can't be mounted into either a standard 19" rack or a Eurorack. I have a ton of gear, and non-rack-mountable gear ends up making storage a lot harder. However it is worth it for the right gear and sequencers are usually easier to play if they're desktop based like the Generator.

The Generator retails for $749 and is available now. It looks like its not in stock at most stores currently (at least in the US), but they're getting more in stock soon. If you're looking for a sequencer I think this is worth checking out and seeing if it meets your needs.
